Water Recovery Program

The revolutionary water recovery program at Barona is the future trend in water management—and even now remains the only one of its kind in San Diego.

Rainwater & Irrigation Runoff Capture

Rainwater is captured from building rooftops, parking lots, storm gutters, drains, even the cart paths at Barona Creek Golf Club. Rainwater and irrigation runoff are also captured from the golf course and resort landscaping. The creeks and ponds located near the hotel and on the golf course contribute to the recovery program by trapping precipitation and acting as reservoirs. On the golf course alone, up to 35 million gallons of water can be stored.

Resort Water Recovery

Water and moisture are collected from every available source, including early morning dew, sinks, toilets, kitchen facilities, bathtubs and showers, even condensation from air conditioning units.

Retention Ponds

All water collected is funneled to a series of retention ponds via an aqueduct, using a combination of gravity and pumps. This water is blended with treated water from the water reclamation plant. The four gunnite-lined ponds hold a total capacity of almost 12 million gallons of water. Combined with the golf course ponds, we can store almost 47 million gallons.
